We had not one but TWO close calls with my now 9-year-old son when he was 2-3. We put him in survival swim after and I breathed a sigh of relief once he could swim well. One time was on vacation after I’d removed his puddle jumper. I closed my eyes for a second to rinse the chlorine out of my hair and he ran from my side and jumped in. His little legs and arms were pumping under the water when I got to him. He was completely fine. The other instance involved our koi pond which is completely drained now. I thought our pool setup was kid-proof, especially for our daughter who had special needs and was mobility impaired. I never could have imagined the sequence of events that occurred that day or that our expensive pool fence would fail after only a year of use.
