I am so sorry for your loss. 

My daughter ran into the ocean last year without her water wings on because she was excited as an almost 3yo to be at the beach. She has jumped into the shallow end right in front of me forgetting she wasn’t wearing her swimming vest or water wings. We alternate the vest with swimmies and she does well with both, but I keep an extra close watch on her anywhere near water and stay on my toes.
