This happened to my son twice…we always used coastguard-approved life jackets around any water because we frequently went to Norris Lake (30 ft deep off the dock) and boated. My thoughts were to make sure the kids were used to wearing life jackets so when we were at the lake they would not push back….one day my son was mad that we were leaving the pool (at the lake) and turned around and walked right back into the water without his life jacket. He didn’t know he couldn’t swim. It was very eye-opening. If I had to do it again, yes I would still use the lifejackets at the lake, but I would definitely have him in swimming lessons as an infant.
